“Of the Tides” Artwork & Studios

ARTIST STATEMENT

DuMaree? Pronounced: Due Mar a (long a)

Dumaree, my family name, is French. It translates to “of the tides.” As I considered how to sign my artwork as well as name my studio, it felt right to use my intriguing and unique name.

I have always dabbled in creative ventures …writing, desktop publishing, graphic design, and crafts, but not until I neared retirement did I explore fine art. A first workshop…and the wave of creation began!

The undercurrents of life swell over me with profound joy and beauty along with melancholy and sadness. These ebbs and flows are the catalysts to my art. Painting allows me to drift through the swell of emotion, light and nature, while attempting to capture the essence of this incredible world.

For me, Art is play…. I experiment with different mediums and applications. Oils, Cold Wax, Acrylic, Encaustic, Watercolor, Pastel, Fiber, and anything else that sparks my interest. The miracle of the process, culminating in a creation, is always an immense and delightful surprise.
